So if your familiar with the MZR/Duratech Engines you’ll notice they don’t use a traditional threaded oil fill port in the valve cover. Instead they use these rather unique Twist ‘N Lock style oil cap. Now if you’re like me and wanted to spruce up the engine bay with a few decorative details then for Mazda’s you’ve only got one choice for a genuine part. Which is the the Mazdaspeed red oil cap that fits the NC & ND engine which is approxiamtely £60.00 for a rather simple cap. Of course since it’s only a visual part I wasn’t willing to fork out £60 for a basic oil cap that in my opinion isn’t the best looking. Especially the shade of red.
Alternatively I came across an article on another website for a Mazdaspeed 3. The Mazdaspeed 3 uses the same style Twist ‘N Lock oil cap as the 2.0 MZR in my MX-5/Miata. They come in a few different colours and their billet aluminium and to be honest for about £17.00 including shipping it is really well made. The Twist ‘N Luck is 100% identical to the OEM cap and theo-ring they supply is good quality. Since their just a sold cap they also come with stickers or decals you can sit inside the cap such a “Mazdaspeed” or “Oil fill cap 5-30” etc etc you know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever read an OEM cap.
Overall, you can’t complain for the price of this genuine part equivalent for about 1/3 of the price. You can find these oil caps through this eBay sellers reviews (for some reason doesn’t show up as a normal listing so I found it from the reviews) I also believe they sell them on other Chinese websites like AliExpress or Alibaba. Just be sure their a Twist ‘N Lock style cap and you’ll be fine.
